I managed to trap my finger in a metal gate over Christmas, which eventually resulted in an operation on Christmas Eve and waking up on Christmas day in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. The actual injury is an open fracture to the 3rd Distal Phalanx of my left hand. Yes, it did hurt.

Day 1 - The hospital decide to bandage the wound and refer me to a fracture clinic in 5 days. It bleeds through the bandage within 10 minutes and a new bandage is applied before they send me home. Day 2 - The wound bleeds through a second bandage. The hospital patch it up and send me home again. Day 3 - The wound bleeds through yet another bandage. The skin at the end of the finger is dying. This time a consultant is called and they operate. Stitches are required and I'm placed on immediate IV antibiotics to prevent infection and possible loss of the end of the finger! The original X-ray. The radiologist states the finger is 'smashed'. The bandage comes off after 10 days. There's a finger in there somewhere.
